Security Supervisor (Night Shift)

Key responsibilities

1. Operational Management

  • Facilitate and assist in implementing the Security Management Plan, Community Health, Safety and Security Plan, and HSESS Management Plan.
  • Enhance and develop security systems and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Conduct security training for workers within the project.
  • Perform security control and threat assessments to mitigate potential project disruptions.
  • Coordinate with special forces (Police/Military) when necessary.
  • Advise the Site Manager on security-related issues and mitigation strategies.
  • Perform security/threat assessments and present reports to the Site Manager for review.
  • Develop and implement countermeasures to mitigate security risks.
  • Ensure all security guards sign the Security Guard Code of Conduct and the GBV/SEA/SH/CL Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain security and order across the site.
  • Conduct compliance inspections to ensure employees adhere to project security regulations.
  • Carry out regular security patrols, including boundary checks.
  • Oversee security aspects of the site and ensure compliance with the security management plan.
  • Act as the primary contact for overseeing third-party security service providers.
  • Manage and maintain perimeter security, ensuring controlled access to restricted areas.
  • Supervise access point operations, including vehicle and personnel screening.
  • Ensure proper searches for all workers upon entry and exit.

 

2. Planning

  • Manage and mitigate security risks through proactive planning.
  • Conduct and submit security risk assessments for review by the HSESS Manager.
  • Provide safety support and advice, ensuring compliance with approved plans and procedures.
  • Monitor and guide compliance with security, social, and safety regulations.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to align security procedures with OSHA Laws of Kenya.
  • Conduct daily security inspections to ensure security protocols are properly enforced.

 

3. People and Relationship Management

  • Evaluate the performance of the security team and provide guidance.
  • Train and provide feedback to construction workers and subcontractors on security procedures.
  • Establish a productive working relationship with jurisdictional personnel and maintain contact with local security officials.
  • Foster cooperation among employees in securing project assets.
  • Mediate and communicate security concerns to the community through the employer (no direct involvement with the community).
  • Uphold the project’s professional image and ensure unity in security operations.
  • Enforce the No-Hiring-at-the-Gate Policy, ensuring community members seeking employment are directed to official hiring channels.

 

4. Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare internal and external security reports regarding the project’s HSESS status.
  • Report all unsafe acts, security threats, and community grievances.
  • Participate in HSESS security incident investigations, analysis, and lessons-learned exercises.
  • Report all security incidents involving guards, law enforcement, GBV/SEA/SH, child labor violations, and community-related grievances.
  • Lead and coordinate investigations into security-related incidents.
  • Collect and submit all security statistics for weekly and monthly reporting.

 

5. Budget Management

  • Manage the security budget and ensure effective spending within the allocated plan.

 

6. HSESS Compliance

  • Demonstrate strong HSESS leadership by following and enforcing all security and safety protocols.
  • Promote awareness of ongoing HSESS initiatives aimed at reducing security risks and injuries.
  • Ensure thorough background checks and due diligence when hiring security guards from public and private security firms.

 

7. Compliance

  • Adhere to company policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Comply with all relevant laws and regulations governing security in the workplace.
  • Follow the Regulations of the Chief of Police No. 24 of 2007 when performing security duties.

 

8. Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform any other duties assigned by management as required.
Qualifications
  • Education/Qualification:

    • Diploma in security management from a recognized institution or equivalent.
    • Additional professional qualifications in HSE, First Aid, and Fire & Safety Management Systems.
  • Work Experience:

    • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working for a construction project of similar scale and nature.
  • IT Skills:

    • High level of proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
    • SAP Knowledge will be an added advantage.
  • Language:

    • Fluent in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
